Nursery Redo

Hi there! We recently showed you pictures from a home we worked in and did multiple rooms. Today's post is another room from that house, the new baby nursery! Like before, we had so many great items to work with, it was a pure joy to do this room.

The "before"

The "before"

The homeowners painted this room before we arrived. We loved that they went with something out of the box and not necessarily "baby" colors. Always go with what you like, not what you think is typical or trendy!

The first "after!"

The first "after!"

So this corner of the room is so sweet! The white piece was on the first floor and in a space that didn't show it off, so we brought it up and knew it would be perfect for the baby's room. Not only is it pretty, but also functional to hold all those baby supplies! The rocker and magazine rack came from our store. Everything works so nicely together!

Another before.

Another before.

This wall was bare and needed drama. That dresser is too amazing to be paired with a lackluster wall!

Better?

Better?

So here we got to play with all the fun things this client already owned. Some were just fun finds, and others were sentimental items, like old photos. We love incorporating things that have special meaning. Adding a few baby items into the mix made it still feel like a nursery, without being overbearing.

This shot shows another corner of the room. Such a sweet crib! To mix in the gold accents, we hung the mirror over the crib and made a mini gallery wall with random frames. We loved the drama it adds to this little girl's future room!

This project was a really fun one. We love using what our clients already own, and making it look even more beautiful. We hope this little baby loves her room as much as we do!

Let us know if you are interested in getting a room, or even multiple rooms, redone. We will come and do a consultation and go from there!

Living Room Redo

Hi there! We have another beautiful room redo to show you.

This room is the traditional living room in the house, but it has been used as the home office, with a small sitting area. The homeowners have never been happy with the space, so they moved the office out and decided to make it a traditional living room.

Nothing too exciting here! This is the first room you see when you come into the house, so it needed to have more of a presence.

The first step was to paint. That was taken care of that beforehand, they painted the walls a nice light shade of gray and the trim an off white. Most of the existing furniture was sold and they purchased some new pieces for the space. Instead of a couch, they went with two big armchairs.

IMG_4838.JPG

Gallery walls are definitely a hot trend right now, and an easy way to make a big impact!

This shelf is an amazing piece! Purchased from a customer who was moving and couldn't take it, we scooped it up and knew it was the piece needed for a big statement. It had been white, which we loved, but decided to paint it for a bigger punch. A huge plus is the amount of storage space it has!

IMG_4837.JPG

Man, I love these chairs! They are part of Joanna Gaines' furniture line, which made them extra special! A new rug and set of curtains really finished off the room. We took items from other rooms, finding new and fresh ways to display and use them. We love "redecorating" with pieces homeowners already own! Everything came together here beautifully!

Thanks for looking! If you are looking into a redo, let us know. We can work with what you already own, help you make choices for any new purchases, and then put together a room you will love. It never takes a lot to make a big impact!

Multi Room Redo

We recently got the chance to work in a great customer's home. She had a few rooms and miscellaneous spots she wanted us to rework. Thankfully she had a ton of great pieces to work with, so it was fun and easy for us!

The room before-already pretty cute! It just needed some finishing touches.

The room before-already pretty cute! It just needed some finishing touches.

We started by gathering all the pieces we thought we'd work with in the space and planning the placement out. This process can take a few minutes, or what feels like forever. It just depends on the items we have to work with- this room didn't take long at all!

Here we have a great display over the bed. The homeowner had gathered some eclectic pieces, we just had to put backs on them and then hang them up for unique art! Then, because there was only one side table, we added the barn door on the side of the bed. It helped balance out the room nicely.

This dresser is beautiful! It gave us a perfect spot to display some of the fun items our client has collected over the years.

Next we'd like to show you what we did in the home's first floor. Again, it was just tweaking an already nice space.

The before.

Another before.

So here is the after! All we did was add some more pieces on the wall. The windows were great, they were just spaced too far apart. We also moved the ladder over, we thought it made the corner look more cozy, as well, the two rooms were more defined without it in the original spot. A new rug and table decor finished the look.

Another after!

Another after!

A playful spot to display interesting and meaningful pieces.

Thanks for looking! If you are interested in having a room redone in your home, let us know! We will come for a consultation and give you an idea of how long the project should take. We bill hourly, and most rooms are done within three to four.

The Sweetest Nursery Redo

We recently had the opportunity to redo a room for a great customer of ours. She was changing a room that was her teen sons room, into a nursery for her first grandchild. We will go through all the steps we took to redo this room into the sweetest little nursery ever!

So as you can see, this room was once OSU themed, not quite right for a new baby! Before we came the homeowners repainted the walls. They also started the very unfun job of removing the border when they realized it would be easier, and prettier, to add crown molding! And to really add to the room, they added a barnwood wall. Thankfully, this customer has a handy husband!

While they were busy with the painting and barn wall, we got busy refinishing the furniture. This crib was pretty standard issue, nothing too exciting, but still in excellent condition. But, to go along with the look of the room, we painted and distressed it, along with a dresser they already owned. This way it looked cohesive and the room would look more put together.

It's coming together! The wall, which is actually flooring, made a huge impact in this space and helped create the farmhouse style the homeowner was looking for.

This is such a sweet spot in the room. The dresser was in pretty bad shape, but with a little tlc and some chalk paint, it looks perfect in the spot! The sweet sign, flanked by the corbels, make a great statement too. We love using items in an unexpected way, and hanging the corbels was a simple way to do that.

This piece is an old headboard. It was pretty grubby too until we got a hold of it. After painting it and attaching the hook that has special meaning, it looked great on the wall. It can hold pictures and memorabilia as time goes on. It's also a great example of using something unexpected in an unusual way.

Another sweet spot in the room. This ladder is so pretty and perfect for the farmhouse look, but is also functional to store blankets as well!

It all came together beautifully! Notice we added a few vintage items. If you like the vintage style, but don't think it will work in your home, it's actually very easy to incorporate the look in a space. We can add those vintage touches without overdoing it.

We hope you love this room as much as we do!

A Fun, New "Redo"

We have been busy with interior decorating jobs recently, and haven't had a chance to share a lot of them. So today you will get a fun peak into a house that we actually did multiple rooms in. We will focus on two of them here. Hopefully it will inspire you, because it doesn't take much to make a huge impact!

Unfortunately, we did not take before shots, this seems to be habit with us! But you will still get to see how a traditional home can be up to date and modern, with out being trendy.

So this room is actually the formal living room, but our client wanted to change it to the dining room. It was remarkable to see the difference, many formal dining rooms are pretty small, so there isn't a lot of room to move around or add space for guests. That won't be a problem now!

This homeowner, Faye, really wanted a gallery wall. And she had collected these mirrors herself, one even coming out of a neighbors trash! At our consultation with her we discussed painting them the same color, which she did on her own before we came. We hung them and immediately loved how they looked together, quite a statement.

We love the look of a "dressed" table. Faye had this pretty glass vase, but we needed some type of filler. So, outside we went and hunted for pine cones- perfect and free!!

The next space we transformed was the home's sun room. It was a bit of a hodge podge without a real function. Faye really wanted it to be a fun place for her family, especially her grand kids, to enjoy.

Faye had purchased new furniture for this space. But she had a special piece she wanted to showcase. This coffee table was her mother's dining table at one time. We cut the legs down, she painted it, and now it is a perfect coffee table that she can get use from, in a more meaningful way.

This is where we really wished we had a before shot! This fireplace was regular red brick, and pretty run of the mill. We suggested a white wash and Faye jumped right in and had it done in no time! What a difference it made. We love how the chairs look against it!

This picture shows how just about anything can be used as decor. This table was hidden in the home's garage, we spotted it and knew it would be perfect in this corner of the sun room. IT just needed a good cleaning first! The picture is of her childhood home, which she wanted displayed somewhere. The room has almost no wall space though, because of all the windows. So the table helped give us a great place to display such a special item.

As well, hiding in the basement was this tool box. Faye might of thought we were crazy to use her husbands old, dirty tool box, but we thought it looked perfect! We found some other items around her home and made it all work together.

Here is one last shot of the room. We loved how it turned out. We can totally picture Faye's grandchildren putting puzzles together on their great grandmother's old table!

We truly love creating beautiful spaces, especially when we can use our homeowner's own items and rework them into meaningful and cozy spots. Our Christmas Flip

So, usually right after Halloween we get started on flipping the store for Christmas. Our opinion is that as a retail store, we have to do this early because every other store is and and we have to be timely and competitive. As well, it takes a ton of time and we want to enjoy it as long as possible.  On top of that, we truly believe that you can be just as thankful at Thanksgiving with or without your decorations out!

So, with that said, let us show you what we did! First, we each gathered up one of our sons and put them to work helping us move furniture! Thankfully, they are great helpers.

We like to move most pieces into different rooms. For one, customers can see it in a different light or sometimes notice it for the first time! And we usually have a plan for each room and certain pieces work better than others.

A mess like this in every room!

A mess like this in every room!

Once we have all the furniture situated, and believe me, that can be subject to change, we get started with the fun part. We begin by gathering all our Christmas decor into one space and then step back and think, "Oh. My. Word." It looks like a huge mess, but with time it all gets a great spot! We started on a Sunday afternoon and worked through the week until our Open House that Thursday evening. Lots of hours, cups of coffee, and frustrations, but in the end, we always love the result!

Enjoy looking through pictures of our favorite rooms and vignettes!

The room with our checkout is our winter wonderland. We fill it with white and lots of silver and gold!

Room Makeover Contest

We recently held a contest for a One Room Makeover. We asked our followers to send in a picture of a room they felt needed reworked or lacked pizazz. We received a lot of pictures! Honestly, it was quite hard to pick, we wanted to do all of them!

The room we decided on had a few things going for it. Our specialty is in taking pieces customers already own and reworking them.  This room had enough to get started, a lot of the spaces we received pictures of were very much blank canvases. It would have taken more than this contest was allowing for to make a big impact. This homeowner also sent in another picture of her house, showing us her style and tastes. It helped because we could see that our design approach would match well with her look.

Here is a before shot.

Pretty standard dining room here! We asked, and thankfully they agreed, to paint the walls. Fresh paint is the easiest way to freshen up a room!

Our first step after coming up with an overall plan, was to prepare our furniture plan. We felt that the dining table was fine, basic, but workable. We didn't feel the same about those chairs! We had a "new" of chairs that we hadn't done anything with in the shop, so we painted, and recovered them. They really set the tone for the whole room.

Six chairs, really in need of some work!

Six chairs, really in need of some work!

Here's what they looked like after!

Two chairs were done in a contrasting fabric. One reason was that the back of one chair was broken, so filling it and upholstering the back solved the problem! We painted them with a dark grey chalk paint, then applied an antiquing wax.

The next step was to find a hutch or buffet. The homeowner looked long and hard for the perfect piece, but couldn't find one. We showed her one from our store, but it didn't quite match. So, that gave us our next project- painting the hutch to match the furniture!

Looks beautiful!

After all that prep work, we came to the home and got to work! We painted the dining table, decorated the hutch, hung new curtains, made a gallery wall and like that it was a brand new room!

Amazing change, right!?

We hope you love this room as much as we do! We hope you can see that you don't have to over do the "vintage look", or feel that you have to totally redo your home to get it. Little pieces here and there make a big difference! We'd love to help you get the look you are wanting!

Here's the happy homeowner, Nicole Waggoner!

Newest Room Redo

Hi! We want to show you our newest room redo. We truly love going into our customers homes and helping make them better versions of themselves.

Here's some "before" shots.

Nothing bad here, but not real exciting either. Sectionals can be tricky!

Nothing bad here, but not real exciting either. Sectionals can be tricky!

So, first off, we played with the furniture placement. We wanted to break up the sectional, sometimes they are too bulky and just don't work best when together.  We also wanted to move the tv, but because of the hook ups and cords, we didn't have a lot of space to work with.

Here's one of the "afters."

As you can see, we placed the two couches opposite of each other. This balanced the room out better. We also moved the hutch that was in the dinette area, the room needed something with height. Sliding the tv stand down a bit also helped define the living room from the dining room.

This is a great way to use collections as décor, instead of hiding them away. If you love certain pieces, don't wait for special occasions to get to see them!

This is a great way to use collections as décor, instead of hiding them away. If you love certain pieces, don't wait for special occasions to get to see them!

We also created a gallery wall. The homeowner had a big collection of family photos. After our initial consultation, we agreed that to make them look more cohesive they should be painted- so she took care of that for us! Hanging the photos in the corner of the wall and outwards,  adds interest, but also allows her to add more pictures as the family grows

Better placement of the tv helped this room a lot. So did finding fun items to decorate with, that globe was hiding in the basement and the shelves next to the tv were on the porch, sometimes pieces need to find new homes!

Next, we worked on the adjoining dining room. As with many dining rooms, there is not a lot of options for furniture placement. So it becomes how to best use the rest of the space. For us it also meant rummaging through the home's basement and back porch for hidden treasures! We always find some and this was no exception!

Another example of using favorite pieces or collections as decorations. Grouped together like this, these pieces make a beautiful statement.

Finally, because of the space the hutch left when we moved it, we needed something to fill it. That is where our searching other rooms came in handy! This piece was hidden in the basement and we though it'd be just perfect.

The wreath and picnic basket were hidden in the basement, they look great now!

These rooms were done with almost entirely all items already owned by this family. So if you think it will be too costly to redo a room in your house, reconsider! We can use your things, or supplement with items from our store. Let us know when you are ready to have us over!

A Fun Redecorating Job

We recently had an opportunity to redecorate for a special customer. Unfortunately, we forgot to take before pictures! We were excited to get to work and it slipped our minds! But, we think you will enjoy the after shots. This homeowner has a very eclectic look, it was a fun one!

This is the formal living room that flows into the dining room.

This is the formal living room that flows into the dining room.

Originally this hutch was in the middle of the room. It wasn't noticeable or a focal point. After moving it down into the living room space, it became a focal point and worked to define the two separate spaces. It feels intentional, looks beautiful and is functional too!

These dishes are family heirlooms and they had been in the bottom, behind closed doors. We pulled them out and displayed them so they now look beautiful, almost like art!

Don't forget the top! We added more height and more drama by adding even more beautiful pieces at the top. Using everyday items can make a statement!

This space was a little tricky. There was a lot of space in between the living and dining rooms that needed to be filled. Adding a gallery wall is always a fun option, and we love eclectic ones that don't seem matchy matchy.

These are all items we found in the house. That amazing pink cart was outside on the deck, we fell in love with it! So it came inside and became a perfect beverage cart!

Here's more shots from throughout the space. Dining rooms can be tricky because there usually isn't enough space to work with or to place furniture in interesting ways. So you find interesting things and go for it!

The deer is a sentimental piece to our customer. She wanted somewhere special for it and we needed something dramatic, but not tall, for the dining table!

What can you do with a corner!?

This picture is a perfect example of how you can (and should!) mix the old and the new. The chippy old door looks amazing with the more upscale, traditional looking chair.

We were finishing up and felt the room need something, a piece was missing. So we looked around in a rarely used guest room and found these great chairs. So they came down and were the perfect addition. Plus they add function when extra seating is needed!

Redecorating

We wanted to show you, what we think was, a pretty successful "redecorating" job we recently did. We love going into our customers homes and creating a more beautiful, cohesive version of itself. Usually clients have great pieces to start with, they are just unsure of where to start or how to get the wow factor they are after.

That was the case with this homeowner. She asked us to come and do her living room/office. As a photographer, she uses this space to meet with clients, so she needed a good working space for that and one that was more put together.

Here are a few before shots.

Nothing bad here, just lacks pizazz!

Nothing bad here, just lacks pizazz!

As you can see, there was a lot of great stuff to work with, and she had tons more in her basement. So we went shopping around her house and grabbed what we thought would work. Then we positioned the furniture into a better grouping. And away from the walls! That is a common decorating mistake, furniture doesn't need to be against every wall, and usually feels cozier this way.

Stacked suitcases become instant table!

Stacked suitcases become instant table!

The homeowner really wanted a gallery wall, and had quite a collection of artwork and memorabilia that had sentimental value to her. We love how it came together. Nothing is matchy, matchy, but it works!

The couch will be reupholstered soon, which will help this room feel done.

As you can see, our client has a huge collection of vintage cameras. We displayed them throughout as art. Any collection can be used beautifully, when displayed well.

Hello!

Hi there, and welcome to our blog! We've decided to take the plunge and start a blog, to chronicle our activites as shopowners and repurposers. We've been at it for three years now, we've learned a ton, met tons of interesting people, and had tons of fun along the way.

Our biggest venture is our store. It's located in a big old house from 1860. It has tons of charm and character, which we love. We have a lot of antiques and vintage pieces. We try to stay away from repos, as we like the real thing. But there are a few mixed in here and there when we find good, authentic looking ones. Our store is desinged and decorated to look like home, so it helps customers visualize how certain things would look in their own. We also love to repurpose and find new ways to enjoy old "junk." A lot of our items have been refinished or reimagined by one of us.

Another facet of our business is custom jobs. We can refinish your furniture for you! Sometimes people can be a little leary of tackling a piece on their own, so that is where we come in. We also redecorate homes. Have a room that just lacks pizazz? Or maybe you just want a change? We can come and give your space a new look. Visit the store, or call in and we can give you more details.

Thanks for reading. Please subscribe to our blog so you don't miss out on upcoming posts!
